Schilling Home
Between 1994 and 2008 the Schilling family engaged Mark to design additions to and remodeling of this Lafayette home built in 1965. The original design, by H. J. Lagroue, was a very nice example of the Prarie style adapted for the Gulf Coast, and was very well built. The improvements were further justified by the home's location on a large lot with mature trees. Additions included a luxurious modern master suite, as well as a pool house with exercise room and outdoor kitchen. Inside the home, the kitchen received new cabinets, appliances, and limestone hood over the cooktop. The existing adjacent dining room became a keeping room with stone fireplace and a formal parlor became the new dining room. Skylights were installed in the ceiling of the spacious den, its brick fireplace now clad with limestone. The den and the new master suite share views of and access to a New Orleans style courtyard with custom copper fountain. All design decisions were guided by the intent to create a very personal home environment while respecting the original design.
